Floral Dress

 

This structural cotton dress has bias pleats in the front a low neck line and an open back. Originally i wanted to have key holes cut into the top sleeve opening but because of the bare back I find it impossible to have the dress sleeves stay up with out collapsing. I may still make adjustments to it if time allows me. How will I stylize it? beats me... I guess we'll find out on the shoot. 

I started this floral dress last week. I'm proud to say I'm 90% finished. Only reason why I didn't hem anything and didn't add the zipper is because I have to do a fit on my model. Unfortunately, Chritsine, just told me that her waist size is a 24. My original model I believe was 25 or 26 and at the moment the dress is 26 1/2. I don't know how it will look if I make the adjustments... I'm sweating it a little. My photo shoot is this coming Saturday and I'm hoping to finish everything on time. I have a red snake skin pattern legging to do this week which should be easy... and any other adjustments or fix ups I have to do with my other pieces. I am disappointed in myself that I do not have much costume pieces but I'm glad I have something. Wish me luck as I have a lot to do... also being a greedy sleeper ( I need to have my 8 hours ), I hope to accomplish a lot this week. 

Portfolio

I bought a blurb coupon a couple of months ago to use it for my costume/fashion portfolio. I'm exploding with new ideas but I tend to start a project suddenly stop and then start a new. Maybe if I post everything I may be able to finish by the first week of February so that I can have my shoot on Sunday, Feb. 6th. I happened to finish my Halloween costume on time by using this method so maybe its possible.

1/4 new projects. The "killer tomatoe falling from the sky" swim suit. It's a terrible name I know but I can't think of a savvy name for it.

I am also working on a structural floral dress with key hole on the sleeve holes and an open back. I am exceptionally excited about this one. I have drafted the 1st pattern and I will be making the muslin version first. Once the fit is approved I will draft the sleeve pattern and then I can cut and sew.

Uber macrame

I have the fabric for the lederhosen shorts. I'll be constructing the pattern for it hopefully this week. It will be hard however to find the right fabric material in this color for the macrame. Macrame is is the art/craft of tying cordage into knots in such a way that they form a useful or decorative shape. My previous drawings were, to my opinion amateur. This is more of what I like to draw for costume/fashion illustrations for a quick sketch.

Charnel House Scraps

 I went to Rob Greene's art gallery showing Charnel House Scraps at Green Park Gallery in Chi town last month and I completely forgot to blog about it. I was very impressed with Peter Wu. Christine and I were conversing about his limitless creativity and his artwork. I especially like this conceptual piece; a boat without water flowing beneath it, the environmental destruction and money is the root of it all. He stated that this piece was done before the Gulf oil spill. I hope that she buys this piece as I would like to take better pictures of it. Peter Wu is the name to look out for. He is absolutely brilliant and I can't wait to pick at his brain again.

Halloween

I conquered. I finished it on time without breaking a sweat towards the end. I don't have a full body photo yet but I will in a couple of days. I didn't have time to take pictures of myself prior to the Halloween bus on Saturday but I will be doing a professional photo shoot possibly with a hired model. Unfortunately I feared that the corset would rip because of how fragile the fabric was and I tried to refrain from interfacing because it will show because the self and lining is transparent. LUCKILY, it can easily be repaired. Here are just some photos of the finished product.

White Faux fur $10/yd. Double sided. Reverse side has even shorter fibers.

I used a metal ring, white vinyl strips, and a magnetic snap to hold the tail up. I then used an old blonde wig from last year's halloween and simply safety pinned it onto the ring. Tucked it into the hole and pin. I also put the wig in a bun for 3 days and formed nice waves. When I made the faux fur shorts I shortened the side seam an inch above hip level.

Burlesque Corset pt.2

It felt like an eternity hand sewing the hook and eyes when I shouldn't have forgotten that I bought a strip of pre-attached hook and attached it to the center front seams. I didn't have much trouble with the eyelets (size 1/4 silver). I'm almost finished but I have a long ways to go... I still have the faux fur vest and shorts to make. Hopefully I can tackle both on Thursday. Tonight, I have to finish the embellishments. This is how it looks so far.

The puckering kills me but this is what the fabric allows.
